Riders from the Methow Valley, Okanogan-Omak and points more distant showed up last Saturday (Aug. 17) to make the fundraising event organized by the Methow Valley chapter of the Back Country Horsemen of Washington a success, according to group spokesman Nancy Palagruti.

A total of 26 riders “rode out in different directions for however long they wanted to ride,” Palagruti said, noting that many “had not been to this sno-park before. Some had only been here in the winter.”

The group gathered at the new MVBCH north summit horse camp located in the North Summit Sno-Park.

The new site offered “plenty of ample parking area” for the 16 rigs that showed up hauling horses, Palagruti said.

As an extra convenience for the riders, “we drew the winning raffle tickets out of each sack after the riders went out so there was no waiting around when they returned,” Palagruti said.

The $5 entry fee included one raffle ticket with more available for a buck apiece.

Proceeds from the fundraiser were dedicated to two county animal rescue organizations, Keystone Animal Rescue in Riverside, Wash., and The Nourishing Hand Equine Rescue in Oroville.
