The North Central Regional Library (NCRL) has been awarded a $109,000 grant from the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation to expand its literacy programs for young children, the library announced this week.

Grant funds will allow NCRL to create a new position to serve low-income, at-risk children.

The new librarian will bring books and story time programs to facilities outside of the library and will teach parents, child care workers, and other caregivers the early literacy skills young children need.

NCRL Assistant Director Angela Morris said, “We are excited by this amazing donation and humbled by the generosity of the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation. Our outreach services to low-income children have been very effective in teaching early literacy skills and fostering a love of reading among young children.”
