Registration is now open for Methow Valley Youth Soccer, the area’s most popular fall sports program, and along with a call for players the organizers are once again looking for coaches and sponsors to fill the demand.
Interested youngsters between the ages of 5 (U-6) and 14 (U-15) years, based on age as of Aug. 1, have until July 20 to register. Owing to the popularity of the program the registration deadline may be extended depending upon available space.
“We’ll have as many teams as we have coaches,” said program coordinator Heidi Bard. “Every year we’re growing.”
Last year the youth soccer program attracted 185 players, Bard added, more than any other valley sport.
Depending on the age group, practices will begin on Sept. 9 or 10 and continue through Oct. 17.
“The U-6, U-8 and U-10 teams play each other and have no away games,” Bard said. “The U-12 and U-15 teams play each other as well and also travel to compete against teams from Omak, Tonasket and Oroville.”

Finding enough volunteers to serve as coaches continues to be a challenge for the soccer program.
“There is no experience required to be a coach,” Bard said. “And we offer a free coaches’ clinic.”
Bard added that anyone who volunteers to coach and has a child in the program will have the enrollment fee refunded. The fee for U-6 and U-8 players is $35, and $45 for U-10 through U-15.
Volunteers interested in coaching can check the appropriate box on the registration form or contact Bard at 997-3373 or email email@example.com.
